The Fast-Growing Kudzu Vine

Kudzu is a climbing vine native to Asia but now common in the U.S. It grows fast and covers everything in its path, including trees, fences, and buildings.

Kudzu grows at an incredible rate—up to a foot per day! Its rapid growth makes it difficult to control, quickly overtaking forests, roadsides, and fields.

This vine spreads aggressively, choking native plants and trees. It can damage ecosystems by blocking sunlight and taking up nutrients that other plants need.

Kudzu spreads through vines and underground roots. Its deep roots make it tough to remove, and even a small piece of root left behind can grow into a new plant.

Despite being invasive, Kudzu has some benefits. People use it for animal feed, erosion control, and even in herbal medicine. Its roots and leaves are edible, too!

Controlling Kudzu requires cutting, herbicides, or grazing animals like goats. Some areas burn the vines, but they grow back quickly if the roots aren’t destroyed.

Lavender’s calming effects extend beyond sleep. Using lavender in bath products or in a diffuser throughout the day can help you maintain a sense of calm and reduce stress throughout the day.
